Solar eclipse fever
Hundreds of people of all ages, excited and enthusiast gathered together at Bloemendaal aan Zee to experience the Europe's first total solar eclipse since 1999. As soon the moon covered completely the sun's surface there was a collective "whoo" of surprise, but surprisingly it did not change much the luminosity of the sun.
On the last photo, you can see how the image of the sun eclipse is formed through a pinhole. A similar method was used by Dutch physician Gemma Frisius. he use a pinhole to study and safely observe the solar eclipse of 24 January 1544. In his book "De Radio Astronomico et Geometrico Liber", beside a detailed description on how he used the pinhole to study the solar eclipse, is displayed the oldest known published drawing of the pinhole and camera obscura.
